Now when Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side. And a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead." - Matthew 8:18-22

“The free Gospel, when it captures our heart, costs everything.” -Pastor Mike
If the cost seems too high to follow Christ, there is a fatal flaw. Do not press in and ponder the rewards that earth offers. Rather, throw your whole life into Christ. See the greater reward, the prize of Himself, which is held out now to you. Weep, pray, strive. Jesus, only Jesus. He is peace, hope, life.
Pray to Him. Even if you can only whimper silly cries from a selfish heart. Call to Him, again and again.
A Costly Prayer
Jesus, Here’s my heart. When comfort comes to call, take my comfort, at any cost except the cost of You. If hurt runs deep on account of your name, fill me with peace that your path is my only hope for relief.
When mocking ensues, wrap me in ‘free-to-me’ righteous robes to absorb the blows and sneers. And remind me that you were scorned to the uttermost. And when I forget, draw me again to the source. You are the source, my portion. Lord, keep me enraptured in You, and yawning at every other offer.
No matter the cost,
Again and again,
Here’s my heart, Jesus.
